Convert Excel online, any format
Drop an XLS or XLSX file and get clean CSV, PDF, JSON, XML or SQL in seconds. Then automate the same conversion for every file you receive.
Before and after
The same rows, in the shape your system expects
A supplier price list arrives as XLSX. Your ERP wants CSV, your app wants JSON, your database wants INSERT statements. XlsConverter writes each one from the same sheet, keeps leading zeros, turns Excel date serials into ISO dates and never guesses an encoding.
- Leading zeros kept as text
- Dates written as ISO 8601
- UTF-8 with or without BOM
- One file per sheet or merged
- Column names cleaned for SQL
- Formulas kept in XLSX output

What leaves your desk
Nobody opens Excel to fix the same file twice
Teams lose hours every week to Save As, deleting columns, fixing dates and re-uploading files that a partner sent in the wrong shape. XlsConverter does that work once, then repeats it on every file that arrives.
Save As CSV for the ERP import
Deleting and renaming columns
Fixing dates that arrive as numbers
Splitting workbooks into one file per sheet
Merging monthly exports into one table
Removing duplicate rows
Writing INSERT statements by hand
Forwarding attachments to the right folder
Automation, Business plan and up
Every attachment converted before anyone reads the email
A pipeline has a source, cleanup steps and a destination. Give suppliers a dedicated inbox, point it at an S3 bucket or a Drive folder, and each new XLS lands in your ERP as the CSV it expects. Runs on arrival or on a schedule, with a full run log.

One POST with the file and the target format. Small files come back in the same response, large ones run as jobs and call your webhook, signed with HMAC SHA-256, when they finish or fail.

What manual conversion costs your team each month
Move the sliders to match your week. The estimate multiplies files, minutes per file and the loaded hourly cost of the person doing it. It is an example calculation for your own numbers, not a customer result.

How XlsConverter compares with the usual options
One-off online converters are fine for a single file. Teams need the same conversion every week, with the same columns and no surprises.

You might be thinking Excel can already save as CSV.
It can, for one sheet, by hand, with your regional delimiter. XlsConverter does every sheet, any delimiter, every week, without anyone touching it.
You might be thinking a script would do.
Until a supplier adds a column or sends XLS instead of XLSX. Pipelines map headers to your template and keep running.
You might be thinking about where the files go.
Uploads are encrypted, the source is deleted right after conversion and the result one hour later. Passwords are never stored.
Deleted after conversion
The source file is removed when the job ends, the result one hour later.
Encrypted at rest and in transit
AES-256 for stored files, TLS for every upload and download.
Passwords never stored
Workbook passwords are used in memory for one conversion only.
SSO, roles and audit log
On Enterprise, with a DPA in the account and a region choice.

Questions buyers ask before they convert
Still unsure? Write to [email protected].
How do I convert an Excel file online?
Drop the XLS or XLSX file into the converter at the top of this page, pick the target format (CSV, PDF, JSON, XML, SQL and more) and press Convert now. The result page shows the converted data right away.
Is there a free plan?
No. There is a one-time demo that converts one spreadsheet of up to 100 rows without an account, and one more after you confirm your email. Full files, batches, automation and the API are on the Pro, Business, API and Enterprise plans, from 24 USD per month billed yearly.
What happens to my files after conversion?
The uploaded file is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes. The converted file is kept encrypted for one hour so you can download it, then it is deleted automatically. Enterprise accounts can shorten that window to zero.
Can XlsConverter open password protected workbooks?
Yes. Type the workbook password in the options. It is used in memory for that one conversion and is never written to disk, logs or the database.
Does converting to CSV keep formulas?
CSV stores values only, so every formula becomes its last calculated value. When you convert XLS to XLSX or XLSX to ODS, formulas and styles are kept where the target format supports them.
Will leading zeros and dates survive?
Yes. Codes such as 00123 stay text, and Excel date serial numbers are written as ISO dates (2026-10-09), so the next system reads them the same way every time.
Can I convert the same file every week automatically?
Yes. On the Business plan and up you build a pipeline once: a source (a dedicated email inbox, an S3 bucket, a Google Drive or Dropbox folder, or a URL), cleanup steps and a destination. Every new file is converted and delivered without anyone opening Excel.
Is there an Excel conversion API?
Yes. The API plan includes a REST API with up to 10 keys, synchronous and asynchronous jobs, batches and signed webhooks when a job finishes or fails, with 50,000 conversions per billing period.
Spreadsheet format glossary
- XLS
- The binary Excel format used up to Excel 2003, limited to 65,536 rows and 256 columns per sheet.
- XLSX
- The Open XML Excel format since 2007, a ZIP of XML parts, up to 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns.
- XLSM
- An XLSX workbook that also contains macros. Converted output keeps the data and drops the macros.
- CSV
- Comma separated values. Plain text without types, formulas or styles, read by almost every system.
- UTF-8 BOM
- Three bytes at the start of a text file that tell Excel the file is UTF-8, so accented characters open correctly.
- Date serial
- Excel stores dates as the number of days since 1900. 45939 is 9 October 2025.
